Natural Gas Utilities to Compete in 2nd Annual Mid-Atlantic Gas Rodeo CompetitionGas utility employees refine their skills

August 1, 2007

WHO:  Three teams representing AGL Resources’ subsidiaries Elizabethtown Gas (New Jersey) and Virginia Natural Gas; Five teams representing Washington Gas & Light Company.

The Chesapeake Crabbers and the Outside Force will represent Virginia Natural Gas at the rodeo.  The Chesapeake Crabbers will be led by coaches Larry Mobley and Pete Powles.  Team members include Ray Cassidy; Randy Stern; Paul Stone; Kenny LeSueur; and Reed Davis.  The Outside Force will be led by coach Mike Bevins.  Team members include Jason Suits; Mickey Perrin; Rocker Sporer; Billy Nichols; and Mark Young.

WHAT:  While emphasizing safety, efficiency and teamwork, eight teams, representing Virginia Natural Gas’ parent company AGL Resources and Washington Gas Light Company will go “hard hat to hard hat” at the second annual AGL Resources’ Gas Rodeo – competing for a chance to advance to the National Gas Rodeo this September in Fairview Heights, Illinois. For more information about the National Gas Rodeo, visit http://www.midwestenergy.org.

The day begins with qualifying rounds, which include digging a 4-foot by 3-foot pit, cutting a 6-inch pipeline, building a meter set, and completing an above ground installation.  These events are timed and should take less than a minute each to complete.

The afternoon features a relay competition.  The clock starts running with the first event – a truck back-up (backing up a service truck between cones) and ends with team members running to a table where there are cups of water.  The goal is for each team member, without using their hands, to empty the cup of water, crumple it and then raise their hands above their head.

The stakes are high. Only one team out of the eight will be declared the winner and advance to the AGL Resources Gas Rodeo, August 11, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia where they will compete for a chance to advance to the National Gas Rodeo in Illinois. The winner of the rodeo will be announced at the conclusion of the event.
