United Way Honors Virginia Natural Gas and Its Employees

April 1, 2004

NORFOLK, Va. (April 1, 2004) – The United Way of South Hampton Roads honored Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) and its employees with two awards for contributions to the 2003 annual campaign that raised more than $18 million to meet community needs.

VNG employees who belong to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 50 received the Labor Union of the Year Award. Union members who work at VNG set new records in fund raising and volunteer hours, exceeding their goal for the 2003 United Way campaign and topping all other area unions.

VNG, a subsidiary of AGL Resources (NYSE: ATG), received a Community Impact Award for “excellence in helping to build a better community, promotion of a successful campaign and for improved results over the previous year.” VNG was one of 25 companies being cited for their support of United Way.

“Our VNG employees are dedicated to supporting efforts to improve people’s lives in our Hampton Roads community,” said Hank Linginfelter, president of VNG. “From volunteering their time to sharing their paychecks, they give generously.”

The United Way of South Hampton Roads serves the cities of Chesapeake, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach in the southeastern part of Virginia.
